Not much bark at Wuff


We've driven past here on a number of occasions and in the evening it looks v cutesy with the fairy lights around the windows. 

We went here for an OK brunch on a very wet Saturday. We were given a table just inside the door. It can get a bit chilly when the door is opened on a cool day.

I loved the lighting... 



Beside us were three students who felt the need to take over whatever space they could. Which, of course, isn't the fault of Wuff. 

Here's the brunch food menu 


Ordered a Wufftini and I watched them make it. I think I got half flat / half fresh Prosecco so it was a let down.


Sean ordered a Bellini and he got the flat Prosecco too.. 

I ordered the small Irish breakfast and a side of black pudding. The sausage was good, the bacon was salty and not that nice! The Clonakilty black pudding was well cooked as was the egg and the sourdough toast. 


Sean got the full Irish breakfast.. He said the beans weren't good but overall it was ok. 


I finished with a Mosecco. This just tasted like Prosecco with water... Couldn't really taste the lime or mint. But it looked good! :)


Overall an ok experience. You can't reserve for brunch but you can call ahead to check if they're busy! If you get the seat beside the door like we had you might feel a tad uncomfortable when the queue for a table is starting to grow.. .

Midweek rambling

During the week I usually spend a lot of time typing out stuff relating to insurance claims and I don't post but I'm sat at my desk this morning drinking my Kaph Blend 3FE coffee and having my new Belvita Tops for breakfast and have realised I never posted about food at the weekend. 
Up very early Saturday morning. First stop was Bretzel Bakery on Lennox Street. Wanted to get bread rolls for dinner that evening. Bought two mini ciabatta and some healthy brown rolls. Also ended up buying an éclair and a toffee apple sponge :) 



These went very nicely with our coffee on Sunday. Sean went to get his hair cut and I went for a little ramble in the sunshine before heading to Kaph on Drury Street for coffee. 

While I was trying to decide what beans I wanted to buy I ordered an Americano and one of their Madeleines that I find always go very nicely with their coffee.


 For a change it was completely empty! 
I took a seat down the back of the shop which meant I could look along the length and people watch in between checking Twitter, Facebook and Yelp (Just joined and was looking at places to go in Munich and Berlin next month) Still hadn't made my mind up about the coffee so I ordered a second Americano and then decided on the Kaph blend. They offered to grind the beans for me but seeing as we have the machine at home that does this when we're ready to make coffee I declined. Having an Aeropress version of it this morning and it is just lovely. The only thing wrong is the view of the cream wall in front of me :(  
Left Kaph  and met Sean. We went to Fallon and Byrne to pick up fresh chillies, red onion, barbecue sauce and sausages for the barbecue that evening (it was far too cold to actually eat outside though) We chose their chipolatas, chorizo sausages and chilli sausages which were yum. "The Beef" signage above their meat counter made me giggle… The stuff of cowboy's dreams and the girls are quite partial too, it seems! 

Back out into the sunshine and had to make a stop at The Cupcake Bloke on Coppinger Row (I know, sooo predictable!) 

New to choose from this week were Boston crème and vanilla cupcakes supporting the Yes Equality campaign… 


The Boston crème was deliciously moist and they didn't last that long - which is why there is not photographic evidence of the oozy centre. The vanilla cupcakes are €2 each and 50c from each sale is going to the Yes Equality campaign. Kept the vanilla cupcake until Monday to brighten up my evening. What a yummy way to show your support :)

You can get a PoBoy in Dublin

For quite a few weeks I've walked by this sign on Abbey Street...


I first discovered Po'boys watching shows like Diners, Drive-ine & Dives ( http://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/diners-drive-ins-and-dives.html) or Man v Food (http://www.travelchannel.com/shows/man-v-food) Since then I've eaten them in Pat O'Briens at Universal City Walk (www.patobriens.com) and Lola's Louisiana Kitchen in Las Vegas (www.lolaslasvegas.com) Both places were amazing and I was so so chuffed to discover somewhere in Dublin was doing them. So with that in mind I dragged my fiancé to Ugly Duckling (www.uglyduckingdublin.com) in the Epicurean Hall on Middle Abbey Street (across from Arnotts) I think they're also open in George's Street Arcade.

Looks good right? I wanted to change to chicken and waffles but I went there for the po'boy so that's what I got. I did order it without tomato but there it is on my bread. It was easily picked off so no biggie.

It's a big sandwich. I had to eat some of the prawns (or shrimp?)  off before cutting it in half getting "the hunch" on :) 

The sandwich is made up of Cajun Creole Tiger Prawns, lettuce and a sauce with a serious kick on Ciabatta. 

In my view this is a great attempt at a Po'boy!!! 

It's v v nice to see it on this side of the pond... Give it a go :)

Easter Treats

Here are some of my favourite Easter treats this year... 

Starting with the obvious.. Easter Eggs. This year it's all about Cadbury's Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations and Creme Egg. The Marvellous Creations Egg includes bars of their Jelly Popping Candy & Cookie Nut Crunch. Love the textures. Just try them. I was given a giant Creme Egg Easter Egg too. Giant egg and a box of five creme eggs. That'll see me through the end of the Creme egg season!! 



Next up Easter Cupcakes from my favourite spot, The Cupcake Bloke. Can be found on Coppinger Row beside Pygmalion in Powerscourt Town Centre every Thursday to Saturday. They had Easter themed cupcakes this weekend and over two visits I tried three Easter cupcakes (Red velvet, Chocolate nest & Vanilla bunny) Sean tried out the raspberry and coconut Easter chick. Fab as always! 








Fallon & Byrne Pecan Danish

Perfect with coffee on a chilly April morning...

Described on their packaging as infamously delicious. Just creamy goodness! 



Poulet Bonne Femme Chicken sandwich

Roast rotisserie chicken sandwich on sourdough. Served with butter, mayonnaise, whole grain mustard and mixed leaves. Picked this up from Avoca in Kilmacanogue but they're also in Avoca at Rathcoole, Monkstown & Suffolk Street. You've gotta try this. 





Finally some drinks... 

Founders Brewing KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) made with coffee and chocolate. Stored in Bourbon barrels in caves under Grand Rapids, Michigan for a year. That special most shops in Dublin are only allowing one bottle per customer! 


Sancerre Rene Carroi Vendanges 2013

Currently €14 at Supervalu. Sancerre is my absolute favourite white wine. This is a good one to try. 


The Lemonade at Super Miss Sue. 

Extremely refreshing and tart with a nice sugary finish. I needed this after a lot of alcohol the previous evening. Definitely recommended if you visit here for brunch.

Super Brunch at Super Miss Sue


Visiting Super Miss Sue on Drury Street (www.supermisssue.com) has been on "the list" for quite some time as I kept being told by at least one person that you get the best fish & chips in Dublin here... Booked in here for brunch on Easter Saturday. 



The menu for brunch...



Starting with drinks we both chose fresh lemonade. The lemonade was tart and refreshing.This was badly needed (thanks to the amount of alcohol consumed the night before!!!) I had a Kir Royale and Sean chose a Grapefruit Fizz... 





Now food. Sean chose the Norwegian Eggs. The eggs were perfectly oozy and served on brioche with smoked salmon, Hollandaise Sauce and chips.


I chose the very very grown up Fish Finger Buttie - you need to eat this with a knife and fork or else you'd need a private room so you can be as messy as you like!!! The fish fingers, crushed peas and tartare sauce served on v fresh bread with lots of chips. I don't eat potatoes but I tried one and I have to say it was actually rather good as chips go! Sean enjoyed eating them though :)


Desserts was a choice of Rum Baba or a Chocolate Orange Pot. Sean was stuffed but I always leave room for dessert and I decided on the Chocolate Orange Pot served with vanilla ice cream and nuts. There was two spoons placed on the table and Sean gave it a little try. He didn't like the nuts but I got to eat most of it and it was really good. We got two Americanos with dessert. My only issue with the coffee was that it was brewed a little too hot. 


I noticed the table beside us ordered the Shellfish platter. That looked bloody impressive!!! 

I have to say this has to be one of the nicest meals I've had in the last year. I've put it on the list for places to return to...
